Bell System manhole cover. An updated version of a Bell Systems manhole cover we saw earlier (http://tmblr.co/ZA8-evIycOiW). Among other changes, the design along the outer rim does a better job of accounting for the holes along the edge, the font is updated, and the Bell logo is no longer so elongated. The use of the Bell Systems name means this manhole cover predates the 1984 breakup of AT&T into regional operating companies (Ameritech, NYNEX, etc.) The texture of the surrounding street is rich and varied, from the irregular stones of the street to the broken concrete and dirt along the curb.
